Below are answers to some of the frequently asked questions we receive.  If you do not find your answer below, please feel free to Contact Us.

What is the application process for residency in a long term care home?

We would be happy to invite you to tour one of our locations so you can experience them for yourself. Ontario residents requiring long term care are assessed by their local Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).  The CCAC will assist you in completing the application forms and determine if you are eligible for admission to a Long Term Care home.  It is then your decision to choose which homes you are interested in.  Once the CCAC approves your application, the homes you’ve chosen will be notified and will review your information to determine the right setting for you.  Once you have had an opportunity to visit your homes of choice, we suggest that you apply to your local CCAC as soon as possible as it will require time to gather the necessary information.  You can locate your local CCAC by clicking on the OACCAC link we have provided.

Can residents have their own telephone, computer and T.V. in their room?

Yes.  You are encouraged to have your own telephone and T.V. in your room.  Extra charges do apply for these services as they are not included in the monthly rate.

Can residents bring their own furniture and artwork?

Absolutely.  We want you to feel at home as much as possible, so we encourage you to bring your own furniture, artwork, ornaments, etc. with which to decorate your room.  To assist you in making furniture decisions, floor plans are included in our brochure packages.

Do you care for individuals with Alzheimer’s?

Yes.  At the Wellesley Central Place Alzheimer residents reside in a secured home area which is specifically designed for those who have Alzheimer’s or the latter stages of dementia.

Do you have both private and shared rooms available?

Both of our long term care homes offer private and shared accommodation.  Please review each homes brochure for specific information.

Do you have accommodations for smokers?

Independent smokers are allowed to smoke in designated areas out of doors.

Are pets permitted?

While personal pets are not permitted to move in with you, each location has resident pets which have been adopted by all.  They include cats, birds, and dogs.

What are your visiting hours?

There are no limitations on visiting hours.  We want you to be able to visit your loved one (or be visited by your loved one) whenever you want.  All we ask is that you sign in and out at reception so that we know you’re visiting with us that day.

Do you need any volunteers?

We sure do!  We consider volunteers to be an integral part of our resident care team, providing hands-on support for resident programs that include activities, visiting, pets and more.  If you’d like to volunteer with us, we’d love to use your talents, skills and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of our residents.  For more information on volunteering review the link we have provided.

What does it mean if you are an A, B, C or D Facility?

This classification is a system used by the Ministry of Health for Long Term Care to rate physical amentias such as:  room size and common rooms.

Can Residents have their own family physician?

Rekai Centres have 3 physicians who provide primary medical care and 24 hour emergency coverage.  Residents may retain their family physician provided these physicians meet the standards and criteria for Long Term Care.

How long can Long Term Care residents leave for vacation?

Vacation leave is 21 days as allotted by the Ministry.  Weekend leaves are unlimited and by combining vacation and weekend leave it is possible to be away for a 31 day period.

How long do we hold a resident’s bed when they are admitted to acute care?

The bed is held for 21 days and if the Resident wishes the bed to be held longer, the bed holding fee as set by the Ministry is applied.

When your name comes up on the waiting list how many times can you refuse a Long Term Care bed?  Does your name go to the bottom of the list if you do?

In Long Term Care you cannot refuse a bed offer.  If your name comes up and you do not take the bed, your name comes off the list and you must wait for 6 months before you re-apply.  Your name would then go to the bottom of the list.
